Join authors Samantha Shea, Eric Eichhorn, Elise Hart Kipness, and Victoria Buitron for readings and conversations about their recently published (suspenseful, spooky, chilling, heart-stopping) books. In 2022, Westport Writers' Workshop lost one of its longtime instructors, Jessica Speart, when her story came to its conclusion after a long battle with breast cancer. To honor her life and myriad others affected by this disease, we are hosting a one-time fundraiser on Thursday, October 16th. We'll gather to write to prompts and raise money to benefit the Cancer Couch, an organization that funds research for metastatic breast cancer. Instructor and breast cancer survivor Christine Pakkala will lead this event for anyone who would like to help support this important cause.
This one-time class explores how Taffy Brodesser-Akner adapted her bestselling novel Fleishman Is in Trouble into a critically acclaimed FX/Hulu series. We’ll examine the challenges and opportunities of translating interior narration, shifting perspectives, and literary voice into visual storytelling. Through key scenes and story analysis, we’ll discuss what makes a successful novel-to-screen adaptation—and how this one redefined the genre.
Ahead of Taffy Brodesser-Akner’s live event with the Westport Writers’ Workshop on November 13th, join Executive Director Amanda Parrish Morgan for a virtual discussion of her latest novel Long Island Compromise, named a "Best Book of the Year" by The New York Times, New Yorker, Washington Post, Financial Times, NPR, New York Post, Newsweek, Time, Kirkus Reviews, Vogue, Elle, and many more.
Join instructor and author Christine Pakkala in conversation with authors and Westport Writers' students Lori Miller Kase (author of The Accident, a YA novel) and Diana Sussman (author of the MG novel The Neighbor's Secret) as they discuss their paths to publications, researching, and querying agents and editors.
