Description
7 Mondays 10-12:30 (1/27, 2/3, 2/10, off, 2/24, 3/3, 3/10, 3/17)
The most successful writers have a network of peers weighing in on their manuscripts and, more generally, pulling for them. In my class, I seek to create this same nurturing, collaborative atmosphere. Each week, you’ll share a brief excerpt of up to five double-spaced pages from an ongoing project — a novel or short story — and I’ll lead a constructive discussion of the manuscript, highlighting its positive aspects and suggesting ways to improve it. If time allows, there may also be general discussions of craft and some in-class writing.
Open to writers who have had at least a year of previous workshop experience and who are working on a novel or short stories.
In this class, writers can expect:
- To gain new insights into what you’re doing well in terms of craft.
- To identify what aspects of your work you might strengthen.
- To refine your narrative arc.
- To find a nurturing atmosphere with like-minded peers.
- To learn about different approaches to the writing and editing process.
