Starting Small: Workshop in Poetry

Seven Tuesday Sessions

6:00-8:00pm EST

Dates: 1/20 – 3/10 (OFF 2/17)

In this class, we welcome poets and short story writers at all levels of experience to experiment and play. We’ll start with reading a piece of flash fiction (less than 500 words) or a poem, and we’ll discuss elements of craft. We’ll then write to prompts drawn from this piece. Students will have the chance to read their work aloud. You might later turn your writing into a poem, a short story, or something far longer.

You can expect to:

  • hone your understanding of elements of craft.
  • gain insights into what’s working well for you naturally.
  • learn about new poets and writers and why their work is successful or what could be improved.
  • find other like-minded writers offering support and encouragement.
