Anatomy of a Novel

Five Tuesday Sessions

10 – 12 EST

Dates: 11/11 – 12/19

This class will introduce you to the fundamental concepts of writing a novel, no matter what the genre. Bring your in-progress fiction manuscript, brainstorm an idea in class, or start a new project during the session. Students are welcome to share up to four pages (2,000 words) per week of their fiction for positive feedback in a supportive setting, though sharing your work is not required.

This class is ideal for people who:

  • Are writing or want to write a novella or novel in any genre.
  • Are interested in learning about the craft elements of novel-writing, including story arc, structure of scenes, dialogue, backstory, point of view, characterization, pacing, plotting, and more.
  • Want to write new words in their project or revise an existing project.
  • Are beginning or intermediate writers, or are advanced writers new to novel-writing.

What you will take from this class:

  • Inspiration to continue to work on your project.
  • Confidence to finish your work in progress, revise your manuscript, or start a new work.
  • Deeper understanding of the craft elements of writing a novel.

Testimonials:

“For serious writers who seek an opportunity to learn the craft and how to apply the tools of the trade to the greatest extent possible in a four-week session, definitely take this workshop! You can’t help but improve on skills and creativity. You will come out with a much better understanding of the process than before and leave with a stocked toolbox.”  – P.G.

“Anatomy of a Novel presents some basics of writing fiction that I haven’t found elsewhere, or that just haven’t clicked before. It has been enormously valuable. I’m actually writing a story now! ” – L.O.
