8-Week Asynchronous Online Workshop
Weekly Lectures & Exercises
New to writing flash or an old pro looking for some inspiration and camaraderie? Staring at the blank page or writing reams of exposition? Join me in a new 8-week asynchronous generative workshop with a prompt-based approach to look at different ways to write flash fiction/non-fiction. The prompts will be inspired by fierce and resonant examples from amazing writers who specialize in writing flash and micro stories. We will dig deeper into the writer’s craft decisions and word choices while targeting specific skills we can use to create our own flash. Using these elements of craft, we will create fresh flash full of resonant concision.
Each week I’ll provide brief lecture notes on different aspects of writing flash fiction, usually related to the topic and/or readings of the week. Each week I’ll provide 1-2 writing prompts to help you toward the writing of your workshop piece!
Each student will workshop two pieces capped at approximately 1,000 words each. There is no minimum length requirement. The workshopped pages may be fiction or non-fiction.
