Six Thursday Sessions
10:00-12:00 EST
Dates: 6/25 – 7/30
The title says it all: this workshop is designed to help participants build a strong foundation for their fiction writing practice. It’s a good fit for beginners, begin-again-ers, and anyone who wants to strengthen their knowledge of the fundamentals of craft.
Come for the push to get started on short stories or a novel, and leave with the tools you’ll need to keep your momentum going.
In this class, you can expect to:
- Discuss: Using examples from published writers, we’ll break down the elements that make a story work, including tension, character, point of view, and more.
- Write: We’ll do some generative writing exercises together in class. Outside of class, you’ll also spend time drafting longer pieces to share with the group.
- Workshop: On assigned weeks, you’ll bring in 5-6 pages of new work to read aloud. The rest of us will respond with praise, encouragement, and honest, supportive critique.
