with Jessie McEntee

Join me for a revision poetry class each Wednesday night. Each participant will read aloud one poem a week up to 1000 words. Bring along a printed copy, and we'll mark it up so you can see our suggestions. We'll focus on areas of compression, examine word choice, and listen carefully to how the language flows. We can also do some writing to prompts if time allows, and we'll look at published poems to hone in on "what's working" and examine nuts and bolts of poetry like enjambments.

What to expect:

  • You'll gain a greater understanding of your strengths and how to play into them
  • You'll develop insights into what makes great poems work
  • Learn how to modify new techniques for your own poems
  • You'll gain supportive and prescriptive advice from your peers and from Jessie
  • Guidance about writing poetry and how to stay motivated
  • A playful and supportive atmosphere - we'll laugh a great deal because poets don't have to be tortured
