with Chris Belden
This is a craft-focused workshop geared to the advanced fiction writer. By “advanced,” we mean writers who have had workshop experience and are currently at work on a novel or short stories. Workshop time is spent sharing and discussing participants’ material in a respectful and constructive atmosphere intended to elevate the caliber of the work. We will go deeply into the more challenging aspects of fiction writing, such as story structure, plot, pacing, and dialogue. This workshop is most appropriate for writers of adult literary fiction.
In this workshop you can expect:
— respectful and constructive in-class discussion of the participants’ material
— explorations of the challenging aspects of fiction writing, such as
story structure, plot, pacing, and dialogue
— non-stop encouragement aimed to inspire further writing, submission,
and publication
This class is open for registration by permission of the instructor only. A short manuscript submission is required. Please click this form.
Manuscript Course: In addition to bringing in five pages per week to read aloud to the class for discussion, each student will have one opportunity to submit up to fifteen double-spaced pages to the instructor and class members. The group will read the work at home, write constructive comments on the pages, and provide feedback to the manuscript in class.
Optional: Want an extra hour of one-on-one attention?
Chris will provide written feedback on either part of a manuscript OR to help advise with the submission process for a total of an extra hour of consultation time. Please choose this option in the drop-down menu when purchasing this workshop. This extra time will be scheduled directly with the instructor.
